Essay Contest for GETs

NIIED will hold an Essay Contest for Guest English Teachers in Korea. The purpose of the contest is to find a way to improve EPIK, encourage current GETs and the officials in charge, and enhance the quality of English education. GETs with excellent works will be given awards and prize money.

□ Rationale

- GETs' experience in adjusting to Korean customs, overcoming cultural barriers and conflicts with

Korean teachers and students.

- Ways to improve English education

(After-school English programs, extra-curricular activities, English training for Korean teachers, etc.)

□ Application Include:

- One essay per person only

- Filled-out Application Form(Attached)

- 3 copies of your essay with the application form on top of the first printed essay

- A CD that contains applicant's original essay & all other addenda

(The file name must be your name and the school's name:

i.e. johnsmith_hongchunhighschool)

- Letter of Recommendation by the co-teacher (Use the attached form only.)

- Submissions should be in an essay format not a formal academic report

- May include photos of all size when appropriate

- Essay must be written in MS Word document file format

□ Length

- 5 ~10pages (A4 size, 12 point font, only document file available)

- Any additional addenda(teaching materials, lessons) can be added up to 100 pages but they are not mandatory.

- Additional addenda must be your own materials and must not have any copyright issues.

□ Deadline : October 6, 2009(Tuesday) ~ October 15, 2009(Thursday)

- The number of winners may change according to the quality of the essays.

- The awarded essays or the attached file will be loaded on the EPIK website.

- Any additional addenda(teaching materials, lessons) may also be loaded on to the EPIK website and by submitting them you are giving EPIK permission to load them. (All essays may be printed regardless of the award selection.)

- All submitted essays will not be returned.

- The awards delivery will take place in November, and winners will be notified individually.
